Reps summon Jonathan over Boko Haram

Nigeria’s House of Representatives wants to know what government has done to stop the Boko Haram's bombardment.


Worried by the incessant bombings and escalation of crisis in Northern part of the country, the Nigeria’s House of Representatives has summoned President Goodluck Jonathan to brief members of government efforts at stopping the Boko Haram's bombardment.

The meeting would be held behind a close door.

This summon was contained in a notion moved on the floor of the House by Yakubu Barde (PDP Kaduna) and supported by Minority Leader Femi Gbajabiamila (ACN Lagos).

Barde said he was happy with the passage of the motion, saying for the first time the House will join hands with
government to tackle the Boko Haram menace.

The president is also told to bring, the National security Adviser General Azazi; Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief
Marshal Petinrin; Director of State Security Service, (SSS) Mr Ekpeyong; and the Acting Inspector General of Police,
Alhaji Abubakar when appearing before the house.

It was not clear whether the House has constitutional powers to invite the President to the floor. This is the first
time, since 1999, that the House of Representatives would summon the president.

Meanwhile, Reports reaching us say death toll in Sunday’s twin bomb attack in Kaduna has reached 50.
