Thursday that they
attacked the Koton Karfe
Prisons in Kogi State
because their members
are incarcerated there. A
top official of the sect
said his group was
responsible for the
Wednesday jail break
which led to the escape
of 119 inmates at the
prisons.staged the“We
operation in Kogi to
rescue seven of our
members incarcerated
there and Allah made it
possible for the
operation to be
successful,” Abul Qaqa,
the spokesman of the
sect said.
Speaking during a brief
telephone chat with
journalists in Maiduguri,
Qaqa said, “our members
are safely in one of our
camps now after we freed
them from prison.”
The spokesman did not
give details on the
identity of the freed
members as well as
where and when they
were arrested.
Weekly Trust reports
that though Boko Haram
has launched assaults in
many northern states
including Borno, Yobe,
Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa,
Kano, Kaduna as well as
the FCT, the group has
never claimed
responsibility for any
attack in Kogi State.
Meanwhile, the Niger
State police command
Thursday arrested nine
suspected escapees from
the Koton Karfe jail break
along Lapai/Gulu road.
The state Police Public
Relations Officer, ASP
Richard Oguche said the
police with the help of a
vigilante group arrested
the first five suspected
escapees while on their
way to Abuja.
According to him, the
suspected criminals, who
were serving various jail
terms for different
offences, also committed
several armed robbery
crimes on their way
before their arrest by
the police.
