PUNCH Newspaper Report:
Niger State Governor,
Babangida Aliyu, has
declared a dawn to dusk
curfew in Niger State, in the
wake of today’s deadly riot
that gripped the state
capital, Minna.
The curfew is from 6am to
6pm and has taken effect.
Rioting broke out on
Wednesday morning when
the head of service of the
state ordered workers to
resume work or get sacked.
This infuriated the people,
who were already on a
protest march in the city. A
large crowd swiftly attacked
the office of the
Independent National
Electoral Commission on
David Mark Road and the
governor’s campaign office
at Mobil Roundabout.
Also attacked was the
house of Senator Awaisu
Kuta and the Peoples
Democratic Party
secretariat, where the
office of the deputy state
chairman was burnt.
